Alko centralised its IT infrastructure services – everyday work became easier and service quality improved

Alko centralised its IT infrastructure services with Enfo, which is now part of the Aurilo Group. The transition was carried out in a controlled manner and with end users in mind. As a result of the change, Alko gained access to reliable and consistent IT infrastructure services with predictable costs.
Previously, Alko had several partners across different areas of IT infrastructure services. The decentralised model took time, created extra work for Alko’s IT management, and caused uncertainty in incident situations. Service quality also varied.
“We wanted to simplify the situation, create sensible service packages, and centralise them with one trusted partner,” says Alko CIO Jani Partonen.
Aurilo had the most suitable service package
Alko put its capacity, workstation, cybersecurity, and printing services out to tender. Enfo, part of the Aurilo Group, was selected as the partner because its service package best met Alko’s needs.
“This is Aurilo’s bread and butter – something they know well. The price level was also suitable. In addition, we already had good experiences of working together on the capacity side,” says Piia Karvonen, Head of Alko’s IT Infrastructure Team.
A controlled transition without disruptions
Transferring IT infrastructure services between several parties was a demanding project. The schedule was also ambitious: the transition was to be completed in around six months to ensure a smooth change for end users.
“Good groundwork helped during the project. The overall scope was clear and the workload plan was realistic. If anything needed to be escalated, Aurilo responded well,” Partonen says.
Minor surprises along the way were solved agilely together. Major issues were avoided.
“The transition was made easier by the fact that we were already providing capacity services for Alko’s critical systems. Changes to those services would have posed the greatest risks to business continuity,” says Matti Kemppi, Account Manager at Aurilo.
One partner clarified responsibilities
Alko now has reliable IT infrastructure services through a one-stop-shop model. The service package includes Service Desk, endpoint management and device lifecycle services, cybersecurity services, and printing services.
The greatest benefit of the model is clear responsibilities. Daily cooperation with Aurilo’s committed team works well. Service needs are not hidden behind tickets – people are reachable.
“The lead time for getting things done and the ability to respond to serious incidents have improved,” Partonen says.
IT infrastructure supports the work of store personnel
Alko’s IT management is especially pleased that the change was effortless from the perspective of store personnel. End-user ratings for the service are at a good level. IT infrastructure enables work in stores and also indirectly affects Alko’s customers.
“Our customers are extremely important to us. When IT infrastructure services work reliably, our personnel can use their time efficiently for the benefit of customers,” Partonen says.
Costs became predictable
Centralising services improved cost management and transparency. The goal was predictability, and that goal was achieved. Costs can also be allocated correctly and passed on to the users of the services.
Alko’s IT management is now shifting its focus to the next IT projects. At the same time, small-scale development of the IT infrastructure continues – the successful project created a strong foundation for it.
